The photos on this page start with the planting and early Spring 2010 and
progressivly move down as the season progresses in both columns

The herb garden...other stuff is scattered around the property, but this is the main plot - oregano, 3 types of Thyme, 5 types of basil, cilantro, parsley, maroram, chives, sage, various types of lettuce and Swiss chard mixed in!

This year's garden in the very early stages...
Here and throughout the yard we have multiple varieties of tomatoes, corn, edamame, beets, carrots, okra, jalepenos, bell peppers (red and green), banana peppers, cayenne's, peas, pole beans, crookneck squash, zuccini, spinish, lettuce, mesculin mix, agrugula, swiss chard, cowhorn peppers, cucumbers, potatoes, sweet potatoes, pepermint and spearment, and eggplant.

"The Wild Side" - tomato that sprouted from the winter compost...no idea what it will be...and a wild rose that appeared on the fence beside the garden!

When we decided to move to "The Compound" one of the major driving factors was the ability to expand our gardens, not only ornamental, but for food and herbs as well. Of course two beautiful bungalows for live and work in the heart of an Urban historic district played a big part, but the ability to grow much of our own food is something we enjoy both from the "green" aspect of living off the land and growing organic, but also for freshness and variety. The other night we counted over 55 edible plants across the yards and in the garden itself.
In addition to herbs and veggies we have fruit as well: Figs, blackberries, blueberries, red and green grapes, strawberries, peaches, black and red cherries, granny smith apples and red apples all are growing in various spots. Below are our first cherries!

LIving in uptown Charlotte's historic Wilmore neighborhood isn't so urban that you can't enjoy a bit of the "farming" life! Gardens are all over the neighborhood - check out the page "Wilmore in the Spring" to see more of the great urban gardens found all over the district!
