I love the name Common Market. Mainly because the place is anything but common. It derives from the first location on Commonwealth Avenue in Plaza-Midwood. The opening of Common Market South End gave us something in the neighborhood that really was a welcome addition - a great, inexpensive, laid-back hangout. Within a month of it opening I think we doubled or tripled the number of neighbors we got to know and spend time with. It's the kind of place where you always know someone will be there that is interesting to talk to - old friends and potential new ones.
Sundays at Common Market became an instant tradition with great brunch and lunch options and endless Mimosas. Friday nights are "free wine tasting" nights complete music from DJ's or live bands -- the back alley patio is always packed with a great mixed crowd and by the end of the night tables are pushed to the side and dancing takes over.
Toss in an amazing wine, beer, and sake selection on top of the deli and there really is a little bit of everything, and everything else, for everyone.
UPDATE: Charlotte Magazine recently published an article (November 2010 issue) about the new "check in" online app Foursquare...link below - note the Mayor of Common Market: http://www.charlottemagazine.com/Charlotte-Magazine/November-2010/Foursquare-Phenomenon/ -> quite proud to be the mayor of our favorite spot!
